H1 Adrenaline World Tour and QSMF agree to date change for ORYX Cup PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 13 July 2012 02:39

H1 Adrenaline World Tour and the Qatar Marine Sports Federation are jointly announcing that the ORYX Cup UIM World Championship race will be held in Doha, Qatar, on January 10-12, 2013.

“There are some unique circumstances that have created this schedule change.” said Sam Cole, H1 Adrenaline World Tour Chairman in making the announcement. “There is a period from mid- November through early-December that the Doha Corniche area is not available due to another event. Our options were the first week of November or the January dates when you consider the holiday season in North America.”

After discussing all of the shipping options with H1 Adrenaline World Tour shipping partner Dave Holley and Peters and May and then looking at the racing calendar in the region, Cole and Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al Thani, president of Qatar Marine Sports Federation both agreed that the January dates were best suited for the event.

“We were concerned that the timing was not in our favor to get the boats to Doha from the United States in time for the event starting November 8.” Cole added. In the past, the boats have arrived about 10 days prior to our start date for the race and there would be no margin for error, if the ship is delayed. We would rather guarantee the arrival dates than risk any type of delay that would hurt the event.”

“The date change will benefit both organizations,” said Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani, President of the QMSF. “They will enjoy, for the first time, the winter in Qatar and we can prepare something different for the crews on their arrival to pass their free time.”

The ORYX Cup UIM event is traditionally the final race of the season for the world’s fastest racing boats and this announcement maintains its position on the schedule. The top 10 H1 Adrenaline World Tour teams will challenge for the ORYX Cup and World Championship.
