Qatar Team:

Team Qatar entered the Championship in 2003 and is now established as a ‘tour-de-force’ within the sport, with HE Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani and Matteo Nicolini winning the European Championship in 2005.

Set up by the Qatar Marine Sports Federation the team took their first Pole Position win and podium finish in Dubai in 2003, winning their first Grand Prix in Oslo in 2004, and taking two further top three finishes in Qatar and Dubai to finish the season fourth overall. In 2005 the team restructured to run independently and entered two boats, collectively taking one race win and four podium finishes, with Qatar 96 taking third in the title race.

In 2006 both boats ran the Mercury-Class 1 engines, with Qatar 95 taking their maiden Grand Prix win in Doha, finishing third overall in the World Championship standings.

In 2007 Qatar 96 took third overall in the title race after finishing on the podium in seven out of eight starts. This season sees a new line-up, with eight times World Champion, Steve Curtis partnering Sheikh Hassan and Nicolini racing alongside Al-Sulaiti.
